The cryosphere is one of the five major spheres of the climate system. It plays an important role in the atmosphere, water resource, water cycle, ecosystem, terrestrial environment, marine environment, and sustainable development of social economy. The cryosphere has been shrinking rapidly in recent decades with global warming. How to deal with natural and social problems, and how to embody the concept of “a Community of Shared Future for Mankind” are required to be studied in cryospheric science. This book collects 14 Chinese-English bilingual papers published in the Bulletin of Chinese Academy of Sciences by famous scholars such as QIN Dahe, academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences, and YAO Tandong, co-chair of the Third Pole Environment (TPE) program. It systematically discusses the research progress of cryospheric science and sustainable development, covering cryospheric physics, chemistry, climate, hydrology, ecology, microbiology, environmentology, Quaternary, engineering, disaster, humanity, remote sensing, and planet. This book aims to deepen the connotation of cryospheric science, promote the improvement of the discipline system, and contribute to the healthy earth and sustainable development.
